Rory and Canticle come across a Lacinus village. Rory scouts ahead, but his overactive imagination translates his findings into an entirely unlikely picture of the nature of the village. Canticle succeeds in making a good impression on the locals despite the language barrier, and they are allowed into the village. While Mage Canticle works on a spell to allow him to communicate with the Lacinus, Rory entertains them with a shadow play that he makes up as he goes along. Once Canticle is finished, Rory notices that it's getting close to sundown. Rory fears what happens to the shapeshifting Lacinus when this happens … and ends up running off screaming when he witnesses the transformation!
