The journey to the Gash of Fenris begins, leaving early in the morning from Kerebos Keep. Tasha and Lucia lead, while Euphrosyne and her chosen warriors and guardians provide escort.

The first day is uneventful, save for disrupting a heard of grazers. On the second day, they arrive at the foothills of the Sinh Range and needs to be wary of barbarian tribes. Lucia leads them up a riverbed to a hidden, natural cathedral where the cast offs of various tribes gather to die.

Here they set out to comfort the elderly and crippled, and Layth comes across his own mother, Apolline, half-paralyzed now from a stroke. The reunion is not like anything he imagined it would be, and mother and son pass the night together as he tells her about his life beyond Amazonia.
