Lochinvar arrives in the city of Aramole in Himar, where he arranges for passage on a mail wagon for the town of Triston – the closest town to his home village. Along the way, the wagon is attacked by creatures known as Abaddon Hogs, and Lochinvar manages to pin two of them with shots from an arbalest (or an "arbolast"), impressing the driver, even though Lochinvar has never used such a weapon before.
