While flying 'decoy' over the woods, the minions of the sorcerer attack Arkold and Vorgulremik with arrows. The dragon lets go of Arkold's towrope to leave him as the target, and when the Jupani is fired upon again Vorgulremik tries to burn out the enemy.

Meanwhile, Arkold loses altitude and crashes into a Khatta woman's cottage, nearly causing a fire. On venturing outside, he encounters one of the Blood Monsters, and tries to fight it off with just his sword. He nearly gets crushed, but the Quiltina the Khatta woman dowses the monster with a bucket of water, weakening it enough for Arkold to sieze its control amulet.
