Piper, a freelancing Gallah mutt pest-controller, and April, a Rath'ani innkeeper's daughter, head out at night in search of a silver creen that April claims to have seen in the Bazaar. Piper attracts several creens in the hopes of finding the legendary silver creen, by offering seeds and playing music on his pipes, much to April's delight. Aaron the Apothecary arrives, also looking for a silver creen – in order to acquire some of its shed scales. At last, Piper wins the trust of the silver creen, which alights upon his head … but Piper feels that to put such a wondrous creature in a cage would be inappropriate.
