After the last of the storm has passed, and Morgan gives Zahnrad a clean bill of health, Amelia invites them both to a picnic where she promises to show them something interesting.

Through the roots of a dead tree, she leads them into the ruins of an underground city, or part of one at least. It contains huge pipes, a commercial roadway, and a spectacular tower made of an unknown, extremely durable golden material and protected by an ancient magic.

While they all speculate on the origins of the city and why it was abandoned, the group takes in a sweeping vista of Stonebarrow from the top of the tower, which has been overgrown by a giant tree. Amelia then leads the men to a half-flooded amphitheater and serves lunch, and inadvertantly causes confusion as she tries to handle her feelings towards Zahn and Morgan.
