Prince Sebazhan and Lady Willow Dack journey to Gateway Town, where Sebazhan heads off to deal with some paperwork to get permission to go through the Gateway to Abaddon. Meanwhile, Willow visits a tabernacle devoted to the worship of the Star, manned by the Silent Ones. She is rebuffed at the entrance, told that she must go to the Court of the Gentiles, and that the Tabernacle is only for the "People" (the Silent Ones). She argues with a priest that arrives, but is largely ignored. She is led to the court by a young warrior by the name of Son-of-Thunder, and there she tries to get through to him, but he ends up going away so that he won't be "confused" by such "heretical" views. Willow says a prayer, then leaves, finding her husband again.

They journey through the Gateway to Abaddon, and go to a place marked on the map as the "Bottomless Abyss", where they have their Titanian helpers toss a cursed crystal throne into the abyss. Sebazhan has his misguivings in throwing away such an artifact of power and heritage, but while his mind wars with his emotions, he still agrees with Willow that this is for the best. They then head off for their honeymoon on Abaddon, and a new life together.
