As per their plan, Lilac and the others split in to three groups to search Castle Pieksvaldt. With only five people, and herself judged to have the best chance alone, the bardess is left to her own devices to gather information. Her destination soon becomes the chapel of the Castle Pieksvaldt nobility, in the hopes she might find some shred of hope and faith within the forsaken halls. What she finds is a few hymnals, some holy implements, and a fantastic pipe organ that is no less grand for its state of disuse. After gathering what she can, Lilac prepares to leave only to find the ghost that has haunted her standing right behind her. A one sided exchange ensues, leading to the ghost wandering off with Lilac in pursuit. Deep below the chapel she finds the machinery of the organ, but also something tragic: Dame Riesling's remains. Stricken, Lilac turns to see the apparition in phantom tears. The ghost, confirmed to be Dame Riesling, seems to want more from Lilac when she manages to break from her grief. Eager to bring the ghost whatever comfort she can, Lilac frets and searches, eventually realizing the Dame must want her to start the organ's machinery. The process is arduous, but she manages it, returning to the keys above, where Dame Riesling's ghost awaits. The ghost steps in to the beautiful device as Lilac begins to play, and at last Dame Riesling speaks. She reveals Kantemir, the seneschal, of the castle is her murder, that he killed her over a simple sword, and that her finding Lilac wandering is the source of the bardess's curse. Bewildered, Lilac has little time to ask further question as Dame Riesling alerts her to the Raveness's dire approach. With all due haste, Lilac flees the area and returns to Umeko's quarters, barely escaping.
