After the Journeyman's Ball, Aaron invites Anisa and the others to a workout at the Caroban Gymnasium in the morning. The next morning, they show up, and Anisa gets a surprise introduction to the magical nature of the gymnasium, when she starts running along a track that magically turns (through illusion) into a forest path. However, when she attempts to deliberately run into an obstacle to see what happens, the forest abruptly "bursts into flame" and vanishes; she is so surprised by this that she tumbles roughly, and a physician is called in to check on her.

After a brief check-up on Anisa – and a distraction of some jokes about all the scars Aaron has collected through his own misadventures – Anisa gets the idea of going and having a sparring match with Aaron in the boxing ring. Aaron hardly seems to stand a chance, but he is lifted out of the ring by a large Naga by the name of Fuchsia, who seems intent on giving Anisa a challenge in Aaron's stead. The ensuing fight doesn't last very long – and ends quite dramatically, as both Fuchsia and Anisa manage to knock each other out!
