8 Jan. Jynx takes an unplanned trip while working in the sewers.

Rephidim Sewers
It's dark, damp, stinky, filthy, and ancient. Lumbering machinery churns away, pumping what can only generously be termed water down large pipes and to distant processing centers. Here and there, various denizens of the undercity slink, slither and slide about. Whatever you do … don't slip.

Jynx's father would be proud. Maybe. Okay, maybe not. But at least the black Khatta has something very special. A job! Perhaps it had something to do with knowing a few folks in that line of work. Perhaps it had to do with his "previous experience". Perhaps it had to do with being in the wrong line at the Employment Opportunities Center – the one that was so short for a REASON.

In any case, Jynx's new job has him suited up in a big, bulky outfit just like the one he saw Zsofi adorned in during his last visit to this … place. At least it's water-tight, so long as he keeps the face-mask shut. However, it's ALSO air-tight, so it's a bit unpleasant to leave the suit sealed for too long, since, although the suit may have once had capacity for an air supply, the technology seems to be no longer adequately functional except to serve as a pale attempt at an air filter.

Jynx wades around, doing what he supposes is in the job description with a perpetually scrunched up nose, ( By the First Ones… of all the places to come back to… )

In order to cover the route more quickly, Sewer Maintenance Team Number Thirteen – with a different roster of members this time down – split up into two groups of two each. Jynx's "sewer buddy" is a Fox – a fairly short one who has great difficulty maneuvering in the suit they gave him. He has enough room in his suit that he is actually able to wear a floppy hat inside his helmet, although the rim is, of course, bent about. The Fox seems convinced that this somehow makes him look more presentable, despite the stained environmental suit he's encased in, and the clunky crank-powered light he keeps ratcheting at in order to provide a bit of light.

The Fox accompanying Jynx seems to alternate between being annoyingly cheerful about the whole situation … and then becoming quite a gloomygus and whining at every opportunity. His mood at any given moment seems to tend to be the inappropriate opposite of whomever he is accompanying. So, in light of Jynx's experience, the Fox is currently spending a lot of time singing ditties without having to be asked.

Jynx gives a small personal feline hiss under his breath, not only did they stick him with a dog type, he's an annoying one at that. "Okay, so what are we supposed to do down here?"

"Oh, I met a lovely dame, whose heart is pure,"
"I found her while scraping about in the deep dark sewer,"
"I've had no luck finding a beauty above,"
"But in the depths of the city, I've finally found love… "

The Fox continues blathering some misguided attempt at a 'love song' along a similar vein, for several verses before he stops. "Do? Oh yes, yes, DO… "

The Fox looks around. "Now, now, I do recall someone telling me something important that I wasn't supposed to forget. But it can't have been terribly important … because I forgot! Now then … uhm … something about a tunnel… " He looks up. Ahead, the tunnel splits into a crow's-foot intersection. Above each tunnel, there is a crud-encrusted plate bearing a number. "11", "12" and "3". Perhaps the numbering system isn't meant to make sense.

Jynx looks worriedly at the foppish vulpine, "You do know where you're going, don't you?"

The Fox hmms loudly, then says, "Yes, yes! I remember something about a tunnel. That one looks like the one!" He points to the right-turning one, Number 3. "I guess we're supposed to make sure it works."

The black Khatta follows close behind his companion, "Well… how do we do that? You're supposed to be the experienced one."

"Experienced?" the Fox says. "Well, yes, I've been in the sewers before. But … " He leans over – which is a feat in itself, in that suit – and loudly whispers through the helmet, "I didn't actually WORK down here. I'm afraid I ended up down here as part of a very horrible misunderstanding with a certain fine young poodle who seems to have this misguided notion that Foxes like to be 'flushed'."

Jynx blinks, "Never WORKED here?! Then how do you know what you're supposed to be doing?!" . o O ( Flushed? )

The Fox shrugs. "Well … I figure I can just fake it for a while. I mean, how often are they going to come down and CHECK to see how I'm doing? As long as I get reasonably filthy and stay down here long enough, I figure… " He walks along, picking his way through the muck. He ducks under another hanging plaque, this one covered with mossy grime, with the numeral "1" visible on its surface.

Shuddering, the black Khatta simply sighs and follows along. He notices the plaque, and thinks… "Wait a second, what tunnel are we in again?"

The Fox pauses, right under the plaque (which he apparently can't see, what with his limited visibility), and says, "Number Three. Said so right there on the entrance. And we haven't come to any intersections yet."

"Yeah, but this thing says 'one'," Jynx motions up to the plaque, "So which is it supposed to be?" Now the cat gets genuinely worried.

"One?" The Fox cranes his head, which does no good, since his helmet doesn't swivel upward. He staggers back, trying to get a look, only barely keeping his balance. "One? Must be a mistake. Are you sure? There's a lot of grime on that plaque. Maybe it really says three, but just LOOKS like one, because of all the grime. That must be it!"

Jynx sighs, "Well, let me scrape a bit off here… " The Khatta reaches up to try and get some of the grime removed.

The grime comes off with little effort, revealing a numeral three. However, the one is most certainly still there. The result is a plaque which reads "thirteen".

"Well? What did you find?" the Fox asks in his whining voice.

Jynx freezes, staring open mouthed at the revelation. His ears turn a furious red as his angry gaze comes to rest on the vulpine. He doesn't say a thing as he stares at the fox.

The Fox just looks back. "Whaaaaat? I was right, wasn't I? No need to get huffy."

"No you weren't right!" The Khatta yells, "We're in tube thirteen!"

"Thirteen?" The Fox gasps. "Certainly not! Why I – Yes, now I remember what I was supposed to remember. Tube Thirteen is supposed to get flushed today. THAT is why I didn't want to be anywhere near it. That's why I chose Number Three instead of Eleven or Twelve. I mean, those are close to Thirteen, so it's best to be as far away from it as possible."

The Fox tries to shrug. "In any case, we couldn't POSSIBLY be in Tube Thirteen, because, according to schedule, it's being flushed right now. And we're obviously standing here … hmm … Do you hear something?"

There's a bit of a rumbling, churning noise coming from somewhere down the tunnel … though from which direction is not clear.

"F-flushed? What do you mean 'flushed'?" The red in the ears gets even deeper as the Khatta begins to have fantasies of slowly strangling the fox, but these give way to the realization of the predicament at hand. The Khatta does a quick about face and bolts. "Run, you stupid fuzzball!!"

"Run? But how can you run in – OOF – these silly suits? And I am NOT a fuzzball!" The Fox bounds along in his greatly oversized suit. A wall of white water comes around the corner, illuminated by the crank-powered lights mounted on the suits' helmets. The Fox shrieks.

Jynx slowly imitates running, sine the suit bogs him down. ( Criminy! ) The Khatta stops and tries to shed the suit. Hey, he's been down here before.

The water catches the Fox, bowling him along. In but an instant, the wall of water will be upon Jynx, now freed of his suit. No way to outrun it. It's either stand and take it, make a pointless dash … or dive into that access tube to one side of the tunnel and hope that the ajar hatch will seal tight when closed.

Which is just what the Khatta does! Shedding the last of his suit, the black cat darts into the tube, making an attempt to slam the hatch shut. ( Mental note: That thing you have against canine types is justified! )

Unfortunately … mayhaps this access hatch has been open a bit too long. It seems to have built up so much residue … that it is stuck that way. Before Jynx has a chance to ponder this unfair twist of fate, the water rushes past. The pressure of the water forcing into the tube serves to shoot the poor Khatta backward at what – for all he can tell – is at an incomprehensible speed.

"GARGLELOOGBLESHOOP!" objects the Khatta, as he is borne along faster than a speeding arrow. Due to the action, speed of his movement, and the unbelievablybad taste in his mouth, Jynx is unable to make any snide remarks of his situation.

At last, the black Khatta shoots out of the other end of the access tube, and has the sickening sensation of free fall as he hurtles through damp darkness. He lands with a splash in a pool of water, going under, lightly touching a rocky bottom, then bobbing back up again.

For what it's worth, the water seems fairly clean compared to most sewer water. In fact … it hardly stinks at all. Something's wrong here.

There is a light shower of water spraying on the Khatta from above, but it soon tapers off, leaving the Khatta in a pool of cold water, in a rocky chamber. Some rumbling can be heard in the far distance, but otherwise it seems fairly calm here. If wet and cold and dark, that is.

Holding his breath, the Khatta swims to the surface as fast as he can. Once there, a coughing fit ensues due to the swallowing of an indeterminable amount of water. Finally Jynx opens his eyes and looks around, ( Where the blazes am I? ) Regardless of where he is, he's still in water (which isn't his favorite thing to be in). The Khatta looks around for a place to climb out.

Despite the distinct lack of sunlight – or the light source that would have been built into the suit's helmet – somehow Jynx is able to see something of his surroundings … and a rocky ledge that juts out, just within arm's reach, offering access to a 'shore'. It would seem there is some sort of ambient light filtering in from adjoining tunnels. And, adjoining tunnels there are, in quite a plentiful number, making the walls of the cavern look faintly reminiscent of Sylvanian Cheese.

In the ambient light, Jynx can make out some sort of scrawling and symbols on some of the less bumpy sections of rock. This is definitely not part of the sewer system proper. It looks a bit more natural, though – if so – formed by inexplicable natural processes.

Jynx pulls himself up onto the ledge, gives a quick shake-off, and looks around at the cavern. As he notices the symbols, he squints to get a better look at them; maybe they can tell the cat how to get out of here.

The symbols at first look quite arcane, but some of them begin to resolve themselves into something more recognizable. "Throg Wuz Here." "So Wuz Goozer." "Hari Luvs Soozi." "Death to the Temple!" "Kaviz are Dum." "Eat at the Missing Shekel!"

Jynx grimaces, so much for a possible lesson from the ancients. Heaving a sigh, the cat looks at the various tunnels, trying to decide which one might offer a possible path back topside. And preferably one that's halfway dry.

Most of the tunnels are fairly dry, at least compared to the sewers. It would seem that the 'flushes' don't do much to this place, aside from the spray that must serve as an occasional tributary to the pool. One of the higher holes leads into a tunnel through which a very faint light can be seen flickering that would not even be registered by most. It is a fairly easy climb, despite the tunnel's slope.

It also happens to be almost opposite another tunnel, from within which can be heard some ominous clacking noises that the Khatta did not previously notice. In fact, said clacking noises seem to be getting louder … as if someone or something is approaching.

Jynx shudders, in his past experience with all-things-mean-and-nasty, a clacking sound is rarely a good thing. Deciding to avoid becoming the lunch of some primitive sewer beast, the black cat climbs up to the pipe and begins his ascent to Dagh knows where.

The ascent leads the black Khatta through an area that becomes progressively more illuminated … but not by sunlight. Rather, there are veins of some sort of crystal that run through the tunnel, fairly thin and spindly at first, but growing wider and thicker as he progresses. The crystal glows and pulsates with an inner light, that throbs with an almost sub-audible sound that makes the Khatta's fur (wet as it is) try to stand on end.

( Wow, it's amazing what some people will flush… ) Continuing his climb, the black Khatta picks up the pace a bit. Tempting though it may be to examine the crystals, it's not worth becoming an afternoon snack over.

The clacking does seem to be getting distinctly louder. Whatever it was, it didn't stop for very long at all in the pool chamber. In the cramped tunnel, the Khatta is forced to crouch down a bit … and it's very disorienting as well. The tunnel is far too regular, it seems, to simply be natural, but if it was constructed, it would seem it was not made for convenient passage of someone of the Khatta's side. In fact, it seems like the tunnel may be taking a downward slope now. The increased density of the "crystals" – which look much like molten glass – makes the way a bit more slippery, since the veins are not only in the ceiling and walls but in the floor as well.

( Great, just great! ) Now crawling, Jynx decides to slide along on the crystals to speed up.

This tactic proves quite effective. It takes a bit of a rough start, but Jynx is soon sliding along the crystals … at an ever-increasing pace. He no longer hears the clacking behind him … but it also seems that the way has gotten a bit too slippery to slow down quickly. And the light up ahead … sudden darkness. No, that's an opening!

No, that isn't darkness. It's just a dimmer light beyond. The tunnel has gotten so bright here, what with all the glowing crystals, but the slide is approaching a larger chamber, with some sort of glowing … moss? Flowers? … Well, SOME sort of luminescent plant seems to be in abundance in the large chamber that Jynx is rushing toward.

Jynx slides along, although the chamber isn't the way out he had hoped for, it'll do in a pinch. ( Haha! The feline defeats nature yet again! First thing I'll do when I get home is find a new job… ) Something about flowers though…

Jynx shoots out of the chute, and does another bit of free-fall. As his eyes readjust to normal vision, he finds that he is flying within a very large … large … big place. For a moment, it seems as if he has suddenly popped out into a valley, complete with waterfalls and gardens, but then he can see – while spinning such that his point of view changes – that there is a ceiling above this place, making the entire "valley" enclosed in a roughly spherical chamber of impressive proportions. A large portion of it is comprised of large, presumably glass panels, through which can be seen a starry darkness and a mountain range … or … no, that's the underside of Rephidim!

The black Khatta only has precious few moments to try to regain his bearings before he lands in a tree, his fall broken by great, buoyant fronds.

Jynx yipes! He seems to be doing a great deal of falling today! Crashing down onto the tree, the Khatta gives a few mews of pain. After he lands, and is sure that no more drops are to come, the cat gives yet another wide eyed look around, ( Geez, now I'm even further from where I want to be! And what the heck is this place? ) Jynx is starting to gain a rather large distaste of strange places.

A rather alarmed-looking Savanite looks down at Jynx. She looks to be fairly close to Jynx's age, perhaps, dressed in dirt-stained, loose work clothes, with a sweatband crossing her forehead. She drops a wooden spade upon seeing Jynx, and blinks several times in shock. It would seem the Khatta has landed right in the middle of some flowers the Savanite might have been tending.

Jynx groans a bit as a headache swarms upon him. He looks at his surroundings, and then at the Savanite, "Oh, uh hello… sorry to drop in like this… " Bad times call for bad puns. Then he thinks… ( Waitaminute… what's a Savanite doing down here? And where is here? )

As Jynx looks about, the world seems to make a LITTLE more sense. Wherever this is, it must be suspended somewhere on the UNDERSIDE of the sky island. The "mountains" he saw through the large windows a bit earlier are rather colossal stalactites suspended from the rocky "ceiling" the sky island provides. It is not night time after all, but simply shadowed on the underside, and the "stars" are but points of light that move about, perhaps light sources borne by non-Eeee fliers. Whatever is below the sky island is obscured in a blanket of rolling clouds.

The Savanite flits her hands in sign at the Khatta … but the signs mean nothing to the black cat. It would appear that she is still alarmed, though, and looks a bit concerned and inquisitive.

The Khatta stands up, staggering a bit from his headache, ( Now I've really hit bottom, so to speak… ) He turns to the Savanite girl, watching the signing incomprehensibly, ( Uh oh, more of that Savanite hand stuff… ) "Uh, hi. My name is Feli… I, er, come in peace?" Frustration, as usual, sets in.

The Savanite's ear-tips drop a bit, and she abruptly points past Jynx, up and beyond. From that direction can be heard a scrawking voice, "Intruder! Thief! Hatah, cut him off! I want to skin this one myself!"

( Oh great… ) "WellIgottagonowbye!" Jynx sprints off aimlessly. He's not sure where to run, he just knows he has to get there before the scrawking voice catches him.

The winding path cuts through an orchard, leading the Khatta past a few possibilities: He could try to hide from the flying Vartans in the trees, or try leaping off the cliff that appears to one side of the path, racing down the stairs cut into the cliff, head into the door that is marked quite plainly, "DO NOT ENTER", or perhaps cut back and hope for surprise.

The Vartans close in, armed with nasty-looking chitin weapons, emphasizing just how little time Jynx has to think out his course of action…

Without much thought, Jynx darts for the door. Logic says that since you shouldn't go there, the Vartans won't go there, which is exactly why he should go there, and go there fast at that… or something along those lines.

The door, as fate would have it, is unlocked. The Khatta darts through, and is immediately met by a strong wind blowing in his face. He stops just in time to realize that he is on a ledge overlooking a long vertical drop, with a long cylindrical shaft leading upwards. Perhaps this is some sort of access tube meant for the use of fliers only, hence the warning sign… Below can be seen clouds, and occasionally a gap that reveals a sea much further below. Some sort of Nordikan sea, presuming Rephidim hasn't drifted too far since anyone last noticed. Behind Jynx, the Vartans touch down, though a good distance away to allow a safe landing in a clearing amidst the trees of the orchard. They walk the rest of the way. They seem to know Jynx's predicament, since they're being nice and casual and taking their time about it, confident that they've blocked off the Khatta's only means of escape.

Past the Vartans, the Savanite can be seen timidly peering around a tree, watching events unfold, wringing a spade handle in her gloved hands, a worried expression on her face.

Jynx oogs… Maybe his logic was flawed after all. Not wanting to become a kitty pancake, the Khatta looks around for any alternate routes that may be available.

The Khatta could take his chances bolting back out and hoping he can confuse the Vartans for long enough to try another route. Given the overhanging branches, perhaps they might have a bit of trouble taking flight again without having to get back to the clearing they used a bit ago. But, otherwise … Jynx's keen eyes pick up something curious below: a large, inflated object drifting by. It's not hard to tell that it's the envelope of an airship, but it's one that is fashioned of very dark fabric and with a sort of aura about it that makes it almost seem ghostlike.

The Khatta looks to the Vartans, looks to the airship, then looks to the Vartans again. Seeing as they are immensely big Vartans, and he is a not-so-big Khatta, the confusion bit sounds risky (Well, so does the airship option but that's beside the point). With a nervous gulp and silent prayer, the cat jumps down the tube. ( Please let me land on the ship, please let me land on the ship, please let me land on the ship… )

The Vartans both let out surprised squawks as the Khatta suddenly vanishes from their point of view. Air rushes past him, as do the walls of the tube – but the walls quickly pass away. The black Khatta plummets. Down. Down … That ship … if only it would move a little FASTER, or else the Khatta is going to MISS … And then, as soon as the Khatta is free of the tube, a strong eddy of air blasting off of the stalactite catches Jynx, altering his downward course … and he smacks right into the envelope! *WHUMPH*

"OOF!" adds the Khatta, smacking down onto the gasbag. Jynx shakes his head and looks down. Finding that he is not on the ship proper, the cat panics and digs his claws in.

*HISSSSSSSSSSS!*

*RIIIIIIIIIP!*

"Uh oh… " In hindsight, maybe that wasn't the most intelligent of options…

The fabric, awfully light and flimsy for airbag material, tears open … and the black Khatta plummets again! More ripping and tearing, and a frightening moment during which he can't get any air to breathe … and he lands with a smack on a wooden deck. Fortunately, his fall was broken enough by falling through gasbags that nothing is broken, only bruised, but his situation still does not seem the best. As he looks around, he sees several surprised-looking Savanites (perhaps that's what all Savanites look like who meet Jynx) looking down at him. Several frightened squeaks can be heard all around, intermixed with sounds of hissing.

The airship has no lights at all – no lanterns, no torches, no safety lights. It might dawn on Jynx that the Savanites around him probably can't actually SEE him. The sun is setting, and the ship is fully in the shadow of the sky island at present.

Jynx thinks quickly, since they can't see him, hopefully he can still hide! Crawling about, the Khatta looks for a tarp or some other such equipment to make a break under.

Fluttering wings beat away from the airship. Around the Khatta are numerous crates and barrels sitting on the deck. Above, the envelope is deflating. It is apparently made up of several spherical "bubbles", but the ship must be overweight, such that the loss of even one of them has caused the ship to begin a rapid descent. As it is, though, at least there are plenty of places to hide. There are tarps covering the crates and barrels, readily at hand.

Jynx can also faintly spy some markings on the deck nearby – a chalked circle, though the colors are not discernable in Jynx's nightvision, surrounded by toppled candles that let off tendrils of smoke, recently extinguished.

He can also make out a faint label on one of the barrels nearby. However, it's not in any language he can decipher. It does have an icon on it that resembles a flame, though, with a large "X" crossing it out and a skull emblem underneath.

Ignoring the markings and the barrel for the moment, Jynx hastily crawls under one of the tarps. Once under, he remains perfectly still and tries not to make a sound. Faintly, he can hear the hissing of the balloon, and shudders, ( Hope they can fix that… )

The deck slowly begins to slope to one end. A few of the barrels break free of their securing cords and start rolling by. Fortunately, none crash into Jynx's hiding place. Yet. Savanites can be seen rushing this way and that, or grabbing onto the rigging or railing. Above, the sky island becomes more distant, until it is obscured from sight once the airship breaks through the blanket of clouds.

Although there are a few Savanites running around … it seems like a very small crew for a ship of this size … and no non-Savanites are visible.

Jynx digs his claws into the deck and holds on for dear life! ( Enough with the ups and downs already!! )

One of the rolling barrels crashes through the railing on the aft end of the airship's gondola, and hurtles downward. The ship is lurching enough to the side that Jynx can see at least part of its descent. Once the barrel drops a fair distance, for no apparent reason … it bursts into a bright ball of flame! It takes a moment for the thunderclap to reach Jynx's ears.

Jynx blinks? Exploding barrels?! Falling ship? Exploding barrels that blow up when they fall which are on a falling ship?!?! ( Oh geez!! )

A Savanite dodges out of the way of one of the aforementioned barrels, as it rolls on past. The barrel crashes through the railing and hurtles off the side. A similar explosion rocks the ship, though this time it seems like it takes less time to hear the thunderclap after the flash of light. For now, it seems like most of the rest of the barrels are still safely secured in place.

Guessing what is to come, Jynx digs in yet even more and braces himself for 'the big sleep'. ( Holy moley… At least now I don't have to worry about that job problem… )

By the firelight of another exploding barrel, Jynx can see a label on a crate he's huddling next to – this one in Rephidim Standard! It says, "Warning: Explosives. Subject to Quantum Uncertainty. Do not store below 5000 feet above sea level."

Jynx does a double take, "Wha?!" Deciding that this is a rather unsafe position, the cat bolts from under the tarp. Now he's plain for everyone to see, but with the current situation, that doesn't matter much.

The Savanites don't seem to be paying much attention to Jynx. They're either scrambling about, clinging on for dear life, or perhaps fervently praying, or some combination of the above.

There are six Savanites that Jynx can count, a pretty modest compliment for an airship indeed.

Jynx stares about in confusion. Although praying and clinging are two of his better skills, they don't seem to have much impact on the problem. And since he's probably gonna go boom anyway, he might as well help some.

Trying to maintain his balance, Jynx wobblingly walks around. ( Maybe if we make it lighter? ) Without even acknowledging the Savanites, the Khatta starts to try and push more of the barrels overboard.

With a bit of work, Jynx manages to loosen some of the ropes, setting a barrel free. It rolls and bounds, knocking into some others, breaking their light restraints, and a whole stream of barrels rolls off the edge, crashing through the railing. As for other accessible props (other than the barrels, crates, tarps and rope), there doesn't seem to be much. There are several lanterns hanging from supporting poles, but they are all presently extinguished. A few candles and stones are scattered about the deck, as if the ship might have been equipped with an air mage (who is inexplicably absent at the moment). There's also a chitin blade that has skidded across the deck, stopping against one of the crates.

A short patter of explosions can be heard. This time, the shockwaves are close enough to jostle the ship, temporarily sending the deck reeling in the other direction. One of the scrambling Savanites only barely manages to grab some rigging to avoid a very long fall. Despite the jostling, the ship continues its descent.

Jynx holds on, and grabs up the chitin blade. Running over to more of the cargo, he uses the weapon to cut even more of the cargo free, following suit on as much that is tied down as he can.

The ropes snap free after some coaxing from the sharp chitin blade, and several more barrels roll free, soon joined by a number of more slowly-sliding crates. The railing shatters in several places, and the ship soon rocks in an almost regular rhythm, bathed in fiery light by the explosions that come nearer and nearer… and then … surely that's the last of the crates and barrels. Above deck, at least…

Jynx sighs, who the heck has an airship with only a six person crew anyway? Sparing a quick glance at the Savanites, the cat decides to bolt down below to see if there's anything available.

Quickly dashing belowdecks, Jynx finds a cluster of cabins and … an empty hold! Before he has any time to react to this, though, and ponder any more about the curious makeup of the ship and crew … the ship crashes!

The ship rocks as it impacts, with force that would normally send anyone rolling, but Jynx's keen feline reflexes keep him on his feet – as does a conveniently available wall to brace against.

The ship then rocks … and bobs … and settles. It's on water. And it's floating.

Jynx grabs on for dear life!! (Maybe not so dear, but life anyway.) Eyes closed, the Khatta expects a loud crash, and for the ship to tear apart, as he opens his eyes he's amazed at the gentle bobbing. "What in the… " Going back up on deck, the feline gazes about.

The envelope is still suspended above the ship, though limping visibly, with the middle bubble torn out. The six Savanites lay strewn about the deck, most of them half-drenched along with the deck itself. A few fish flop about helplessly on the soaked wood.

The sky above is starless … but a few points of light can be seen slowly breaking through the blanket of cloud and descending. A blaring horn warns any unseen fliers or airships of the vessel's approach. It appears to be approaching the now seaborne airship that Jynx currently rides on.

Jynx wows, he didn't think these things floated too. He walks over to one of the Savanites, trying to see if it is okay. Then he notices the other airship… ( Uh oh… )

As the descending ship approaches, a voice calls out, amplified through a horn, "Ho there! Any survivors?"

Jynx ponders whether or not to reply, then decides he doesn't like the thought of spending the night here. At the top of his voice, the cats yells, "Yes! There's Seven of us! We nee help!" As if it weren't obvious enough.

The approaching vessel draws near, the firelights illuminating the banner of the Temple. After some maneuvering and sending over some fliers to secure lines, Jynx and the six Savanites are eventually brought over to the other ship. Aboard the patrol vessel, there are a number of sullen-looking bats trussed up with rope bindings. A Jupani guard looks Jynx over, then says, "Looks like we caught some Babelite terrorists attempting an act of violence against Rephidim. Were … you the one who somehow stopped them?"

Jynx blinks, "W-well, I guess so… I mean… I just sorta dropped in on them… "

The Jupani proudly claps Jynx on the shoulder. "Good work, Citizen! We need more brave souls such as yourself!" He turns toward the others. "MEDIC!" The deck bustles with activity as Jynx is borne back up toward Rephidim on the patrol vessel.

Jynx looks up to the Jupani, then back down at the deck. ( I wonder if I'll get fired for all of this… )
