Envoy and Chipper's Room
At six by ten feet, this small dorm at the Bards Guild is fairly cramped. Beneath the single high window is a small writing desk and some indoor plants on a shelf. More shelves over the cot-like bed hold various books and trinkets belonging to Chiaroscuro, while the opposite wall serves as a hanging wardrobe for the various costumes and outfits used by the two performers. Envoy's sleeping map takes up the corner nearest to the door, while the far one is occupied by a small cabinet that serves as both pantry and sink, having a jug of fresh water and a washbasin on top. An oil lamp rests on the desk, its light flickering around the room, revealing the orderliness of Envoy's possessions and the 'neat chaos' of Chiaroscuro's.
The mongoose himself is drying off after his bath, fur thick and poofed out. As he finishes drying, he takes a small, cheaply made brush, and begins to groom his fur completely out, starting at his head-fur and working downwards.
There's a 'bump' against the door, which opens for Envoy. She stumbles in, closes the door, and then knocks three times on it.
Chiaroscuro makes a small *meef* sound as Envoy stumbles in. He jumps up to his feet, realizes he's nude, and pulls his tail in front of himself for 'cover'. "En-Envoy! Umm… "
The brush clatters to the floor loudly.
Envoy blinks a bit in the lamplight as she turns around, "Oh, hi Chipper! What are you doing out in the hallway?"
Chiaroscuro looks at Envoy puzzledly, then darts his eyes around the room, as if to make sure he is where he thought he was… then looks back at Envoy, trying to maintain a bit of dignity. "This is not the hallway, Envoy… This is, ah, our room."
Envoy blinks and looks around again. "Oh… it is." She rubs her forehead. "I'm still a little woozy. Everything looks fluffy." She sits down awkwardly on the cot.
Chiaroscuro backs up slowly a few steps, still keeping his tail held in careful position, untl he reaches the towel he was using… whipping it quickly up around his waist and cinching it, then padding over to the cot to sit beside Envoy. "Woozy? What happened?"
Chiaroscuro tilts his head a bit to the side, watching Envoy closely, ears perked.
Envoy blinks and tries to focus on Chia again. "Do you have a navel? I drank something at the Shiny Mug, and started to lose my gravity."
Envoy says, "Why are you wearing a skirt?"
Chiaroscuro ahhhhs… "I see now… " He pauses for a moment, and, as usual, tries to answer Envoy's question logically. "Yes, I do have a navel, Envoy. And this is not a skirt, just a towel." He shifts a bit uncomfortably, and hurries along to say, "Do you have a navel?"
Envoy blinks. "No, I don't have a navel." She frowns, and her eyes get watery. "I don't have one… "
Envoy says, "I don't even have a towel… "
Chiaroscuro lifts his eyes skyward a moment, and mouths what seems to be a short prayer, then smiles gently at Envoy. "Then the first thing tomorrow, we will go shopping and get you a towel, hmm?" he says in an almost parent-like voice.
Envoy throws her arms around Chipper and sobs into his fluffy shoulder.
Chiaroscuro sits stunned for just a half a second, before hugging Envoy carefully, using one paw to rub her hair… trying to calm her. He makes a soft 'rchhhhrrr' sound, in a soothing baritone.
Envoy makes a horrible snorting sound before pulling her head back, "Thank you Chipper. Can you get me a navel too?"
Chiaroscuro cannot help giggling a little… then sets his muzzle solidly, and says, "If you find a shop that sells them, I will buy you one, you have my word!" in as serious a tone as he can muster.
Envoy smiles loopily, and her eyes dilate more as she looks at Chiaroscuro. Suddenly, she leans forward to kiss the mongoose, pushing him back onto the cot!
Envoy immediately falls asleep in this awkward position.
Chiaroscuro… does nothing for the next minute or so, too stunned to move.
Chiaroscuro very, very, very carefully squirms out from under Envoy, trying to not disturb either her nor the towel around his waist… finally moving free.
Envoy's arm drapes over the side of the cot now, and she's drooling a little. No snoring though, thankfully.
Chiaroscuro goes to the closet to get his sleeping clothes; just a simple shirt and boxer-like undergarment, and dresses… moving a bit distractedly, lost in thought.
Envoy mumbles something and curls up further onto the cot.
Chiaroscuro pads over to the bedside, and sets the thin bedsheet over Envoy… settling the pillow carefully under her head as well.
Envoy jerks awake, getting her wings tangled in the sheet, and burps. "Pardon me… "
Chiaroscuro leans back a bit… tilting his head at Envoy. "Did, ah… " He pauses to consider a few questions, then asks the simplest one, "… did you sleep well, Lady Envoy?"
Envoy blinks at Chipper, "Huh? I can't have slept, I'm still dressed."
Envoy yawns, "I do feel tired though." She fumbles at the knot that ties her blouse laces.
Chiaroscuro shakes his head. "You did slee-" He coughs and looks away as Envoy tries to unlace her blouse. "Well, if you are tired, you should rest then," he says, eyes firmly gazing at a dark speck upon one wall.
Envoy gives up after a few tries, "I can't undo the knot, and my wings are tangled. Can you help me?" She doesn't seem to specify WHICH she wants help with though.
Envoy rubs her chin, and wonders why it's wet…
Chiaroscuro takes a deep breath… and lets it out with a hastily muttered phrase in Kitellian. "Hold still, and I'll free your wings." He leans over to lift off the sheets, trying to keep from tugging on the wings as he does.
Envoy fluffs her feathers after her wings are freed, and manages to refold them correctly on the first try. "I think I should go to sleep. How long will this fuzziness last, Chipper?"
Chiaroscuro pats Envoy's hand gently with a paw. "Well, I imagine one night's sleep ought to take most of it away. Though for you, it might be different… I can only say what I know."
Envoy nods carefully, then shuffles to her sleeping mat in the corner.
Chiaroscuro keeps a careful eye on Envoy, helping her over to the mat with a gentle guidance on her shoulder. "No… to the left… now forward… okay, here we are."
Envoy sits down cross-legged, and leans back against the wall. "Thank you, Chipper," she smiles, and her eyes unfocus. Eventually, the lids close too.
Chiaroscuro waits for a minute, to see if Envoy will tip over, or if she'll be sleeping safely.
Envoy seems to be sleeping normally. Normal for her, anyway.
Chiaroscuro steps over to the oil lamp, extinguishing it for the night, then maneuvers carefully to his bed, settling down under the cover. He tosses and turns for a bit, before finally getting comfortable…
Chiaroscuro glances at Envoy in the dim, dim light that leaks in from around the door's edges before closing his eyes, falling asleep with a wide smile on his muzzle.
