Zoltan, having just celebrated the birthday of his adopted jaguar son, Enos, wakes up to find that an airship is arriving at Paradys, bearing Jezebel (a.k.a. Third-Vision, Priest-Queen of the City of Hands) and her entourage. Jezebel and Zoltan go to an empty cabin, where the Priest-Queen tells Zoltan of the troubles she's been having at the City of Hands … and her own conflict over her position not only as Queen of the Savanites, but High Priestess as well. Her concern is … Priestess of what? The Savanites come from many places and many cultures, and have many different beliefs. The Twelve-times-Twelve tried to set up a "state religion" based on twelve deities drawing upon aspects of the many "tribal gods" of the wild Savanites … and tried to associate Jezebel herself with one of those goddesses, in order to establish her position on the level of deity with the people. Jezebel refused to go along, however, and had the idols destroyed … but now she is unsure what course to take, now that the issue of religious division has been brought to the forefront in the City of Hands.

Zoltan does his best to advise Jezebel in essence to take the time she needs to seek out the truth for herself … and then breaks the news to her that Enos and Pouncer are not only descendants of Shokar, but may very well be descendants of Amenlichtli herself. After Jezebel has time to recover from this news, they head back to Zoltan's cabin, where Enos and Pouncer greet their "mother". Over breakfast, Jezebel gives Enos his birthday present – a bead necklace – and discusses with Zoltan future plans.
