Haji wakes up in a "jungle", accompanied by a short "mutt" of a Jupani, and finds out that he has been given a new position as a gardener for a single terrace of a large, artificial, enclosed environment. He also finds out that this place grows more than just flowers and trees – He is to tend to some "herbs" of illegal nature. Once he is left alone, he decides to explore the shaft that contains a "dumb waiter" arrangement that brings supplies and food. He ends up meeting two of his "neighbors" in an unexpected fashion, before he manages to get back to his own quarters.
