The term "Sphynx" has been applied to various winged feline-humanoids found on Sinai, whether born due to genetic mutation to Khatta parents, or some sort of Vartan half-breed. In particular, a large settlement of half-Vartans on the sky island of Paradys was discovered in recent history, some of whom have left the sky island to find their fortunes in the world beyond -- now freed from the strange technological "prison" that entrapped them there for years with other prisoners of the island: a village of cannibalistic jaguar-Khattas.
The Sphynxes of Paradys are, in fact, descendants of the Vartan crew of an airship ("Shokar's Silver Bell") that were stranded there, and of some of the jaguar-Khattas (Aeztepans) taken as their wives. As such, they are a blend of Khatta and Vartan genetic features -- most often having a feline-humanoid body (either plantigrade or digitigrade) and a pair of feathered wings. However, some sport hooves, or another sampling of the mixed features already combined in the feline-equine-avian form of a Vartan hippogryph.
Paradysian Sphynxes are capable of speaking Rephidim Standard, but the bulk of them consider Vartan as their native tongue, and will proudly call themselves "Vartans", despite any argument to the contrary.

Solus:
A distinctly separate "sphynx" race is also known on Sinai, as the "Solus". Some are inclined to count these in as another type of "Sphynx", but they are genetically distinct, with no indications of any Vartan ancestry. Solus resemble white-winged Katthas, feline with digitigrade legs, living in the Himar Region, with their own native tongue of Solus. The Solus are fairly reclusive as societies go, and most Solus that may be encountered will be "impure" outcasts -- those who have wings that are not pure white, or some discoloration of their fur that their people have taken to be impure and thus an ill omen, and have been thrown out of the tribe -- or else descendants of such. "Outcast" Solus can be found occasionally as crew on airships, and as dock-hands in Rephidim.
