Lacinus are a race of shapechanging marsupial canines from Lamu. They have a hunter-gatherer society but also trade heavily with airships that stop in their lands from time to time. Lacinus are rare outside of Lamu, but there are a few wandering souls who join up on passing airships to go and see the world. Lacinus are usually about four feet in height. Their build is animal-like, almost resembling a dog walking around on its hind legs. They have tawny fur with dark brown strips on their hindquarters; females have pouches. They are generally named after things in nature: plants, rocks, and animals.
Lacinus have two body forms: biped and quadruped. Typically, Lamunian Lacinus spend the night-time in their quadruped form, then, with a painful cracking of bones and stretching of limbs, they shift to their bipedal forms during the daytime. This shape-shifting process, while inherent, is evidently at least partially magical in nature, as the process is slower at higher altitudes and in areas of low magic. In an area of especially low magic, it is likely that the Lacinus would be "frozen" in one form or the other.
