Though it may well be entirely unfounded, there is a common belief that all
Foxes on Sinai are Exiles or descendants of Exiles, rather than being
"native" to Sinai (or as much as any can claim to be, given the tales of the
"Ark"). Indeed, due to some cosmic strangeness, there seems to be a
disproportionate number of Foxes that have arrived on Sinai through the
Forbidden Zones, but beyond certain features that identify them as a type,
they vary one from the other greatly. Hence they are only a "species"
in name and superficial appearance.
It should be noted that Zerdas, while most certainly vulpine, and sometimes
even called "Foxes", are seen as an exception to this rule, and as a
distinctly separate race. (Keiltyn, however, are generally lumped in with
"Foxes" in the popular non-Keiltyn mindset.)
NOTE: while it is unofficial, there does seem to be a running in-joke about
certain traditions that poke fun at foxes, such as "fox-flushing" and
fox-shaving, and the Gooshurm's curious preference for foxes.
