Sifras Technology
Sifras technology is distinguished by being made out of Sifran crystal and stone. Sifran crystal tends to look like molten glass in parts, and actual "crystal" in others, and when it's part of some sort of a Sifran artifact that is still functional, it often glows and pulsates, having a liquid look to it, though it actually remains solid (usually). Sifran crystal technology often consists of pieces that are able to break apart and fuse together repeatedly. (The "windows" at the Crystal Gateway and Crystal Chambers that "break apart" and then close back together would be prime examples of this.)
Sifran technology is weird. It doesn't necessarily follow rational scientific principles. It is alien, yet somehow familiar at times. Sometimes, crystal veins may conduct electricity or strange energy that behaves a whole lot like electricity, and bridging a gap with some wire could cause a short circuit. A section of crystal that shatters when an overload happens may act as a "fuse", and putting the pieces back together may allow the equivalent of closing the circuit once more.
Sifran technology does not break the "universal laws", but it does allow for higher technology (or magical effects) than would be possible due to "Quantum Uncertainty". The Gateway Tower, for instance, provides teleportation of a sort to other planets - something beyond the tech level not only on the surface, but Rephidim as well.
First Ones Technology
First Ones technology represents a blend of Sifran technology with some other technology. If a site is encountered that seems to blend Sifran crystal technology with more "conventional" technology (wiring, etc.), then it's likely an example of this "hybrid" technology. An example might be a lump of crystal that somehow has been hooked up to some electrical wiring, and the crystal is serving as a "battery" for some sort of mechanical device. Or, there may be other more alien technologies merged with Sifran tech - "plant technology", "bug technology", "optical technology", etc. Basically, ways were found to make technology that normally wouldn't work on the surface now functional ... but merging it with Sifran crystals in some obscure, arcane, long-forgotten method.
It is theoretically possible that some examples of "hybrid technology" might be found that doesn't truly date back to the First Ones. For example, perhaps a tinkerer from an early time after the Expedition discovered a broken piece of a Sifran artifact that, in and of itself, stored electrical energy when exposed to sunlight, then released it in darkness, so he somehow rigged it up to a lightbulb that will turn on whenever it would otherwise be dark, or something like that. (Maybe the thing strobes, because every time it lights up, it switches itself off, et cetera.)
