Locations: Chief Features of Himaat
Abu Dhabi: The "Jewel of the Desert", this is the largest city of
any note in the region, located on the western edge of the Himaat, as a port
city. It is a hub of trade by land, air and sea, and the seat of power for
the leader of the Khattan Emirate, the Emir. Khattas are the predominant
people to be found here, but Zerdas live in the outlying areas as well.
Earth Tower of Barabbas: Walled off by a perpetual sandstorm, this magical
tower was built by a Nohbakim earth mage by the name of Barabbas, and explored in 6099 RTR.
The fate of those first explorers is unknown for certain, and the tale of that tragic
expedition is seldom told.
Gateway Tower: Located in the heart of the once impenetrable
Forbidden Zone of Himaat, this is an ancient and alien structure that is
reputed to provide a way to reach other worlds. A town has arisen around it, known as
"Gateway", part of it within the Forbidden Zone anamoly, and another portion just on the
outside. Airships and sandships can dock at the outer half of the town, and a tunnel has
been constructed to shelter travelers on their way through the perpetual and supernatural
storm that constantly churns in a ring around the Tower. Merchants buy, sell and trade
wares here, various political entities have set up embassies, and religious interests have
set up missions. Abaddonian human soldiers of the Kampfzengruppe have an alliance with the
Emir, and provide defense for the town, and oversee the daily opening of the Gateway to
or from one of the Gateway Worlds. Numerous adventure-seekers cluster here in hopes of
finding employment and an opportunity to journey to other worlds.
Golden Peninsula: A peninsula jutting out into the Sea of Himaat, west of
Abu Dhabi, populated primarily by Rhians, though still dominated by a culture closely
related to that of the Khattan Emirate, and sharing its language. The primary port town is
Al Bawaba, though it is small enough that it sees no great airship traffic in and out.
Himaat Desert: To many, this is inseperable from the identity of
Himaat. While it is not the largest desert on Sinai, it is famed for the
exotic beasts that make their home in it (such as gooshurm, shriken,
sandfish, kooshkies and sand urchins), and for the colorful people to be found
there.
Noh: The exact location of this city is known only to the
secretive and nomadic Nohbakim. Located far from any obvious resources,
it is a silent testament to what the land might have once been like before
the desert claimed it.
Sea of Sand: This is a part of the desert that exhibits strange
properties. Namely, things tend to sink in the sand. The only way to keep
from sinking and suffocating to death is to distribute one's weight across
the surface ... by wearing sand-shoes, or traveling in "sand triremes" or
sleds. There are many dangerous creatures that roam the Sea of Sand -- most
notably being the Shriken -- and many are those who succumb to the harsh
elements.
