Lady Sorceress Nyumae of the Lake,
Lord Explorer Thomas,
Lady Redmane,
Lady Rachel

Nyumae's Spire
The Lake

To my dear friends,

It is with joy I write to you, for it has been too long and there is so much to tell you all! I have met her and she is so very nice, more than I ever imagined she could be. 'Tis plain to you then that I have arrived, and am safe, though I must be careful e'er this letter not fly true. That too must be plain to your eyes. T'was not so simple as I thought, I never was very good at hiding games. Not like you Lord Explorer, or you Lady Redmane. Would that time be my ally, but I fear it is not yours nor mine, so I must put aside the wonder that I would so very much like to share and say what is important.

'Tis a fault of the times that courtly life is most troubled. Would the rest of my stay be so joyous as my meeting her, 'nay, lords of all Seasons do continue to bicker over the throne and Mirari does grow too harsh under the unending Winter. The kingdom suffers for want of a new Year and a new King. Even Lord April gives his sister her majesty no peace on the matter. Why it was only today that his lordship and his page Simon -- yes Simon! -- did meet to exchange such heavy words. I must express that I put ill at ease thinking of this matter of succession. Truly I know not what the lords' plans are, and I do refer to all the lords, and should the throne fall to the hands of a lord who would misuse it, even the promise of a new Year would be for naught.

Lord April is of particular mystery and I would council you not to trust his lordship o'er much I have suggested his lordship may be as another, as the Jack-of-Hearts was but a guise, and would ask of you the Optikon should you journey here to meet me. Were Lord April as kind a man as there ever could be, a Rule is not to be broken lightly. To pass on the Crown without his majesty's leave might well invite disaster of a diffrent feather. As of his majesty I can only say he remains away and I can only think he continues to search for an end to the false Springs. I would ask you all, my friends, to search for such an answer as well, and suggest the answer may well lie in the question that bears its name: Year's End. T'would be best for all Mirari if the heir cycle were at an end. 'Tis my course to seek such an answer and I shall by her grace continue to do so.

I think it also necessary to speak on the matter of our friend Simon, though I cannot abide my speaking so secretively about a friend. We spoke, though he knew me not, and he related the troubles of the kingdom and what solutions he finds favor in. T'would seem plain to me then that he does support Lord April who claims to wish only to ease the burdens of Mirari quickly and bring a new Year. In that, he may think Lord April right in all things. I know not his lordship's true intention, though I confess to being afraid of him however much Simon may belive in his way. No matter his beginnings or his alliances I continue to have faith that Simon is of a good heart and good intention, however.

And lastly I must relate to you several items of interest that may help you upon your quests.

'Tis true some amongst the prophecies may feel familiar to you, my friends. Others you may yet to have come to know. I shall list the best of what I have discovered that the whole of it may guide you.

Lady Raven's prophecy before his majesty vanished:

In the Lands Beyond, where fresh dreams are born
The King may answer find, though hope forlorn
Anything can be broken, then forged anew
Rules can be changed, by those with the mind to.

Rebecca's prophecy at the Siege de Anges:

I saw Lord Melchizedek, with his mane and tail on fire, and his horn gleaming orange and silver in the light, rising to do battle against the Year's End. The Princess sought her father, while two warriors flanked the unicorn in his defense. And the Sorceress ... and the Jester ... had vanished. You needed our aid, but we were not there, either. The forces of good were losing, one by one, disappearing. It is up to you to find where they have gone.

Lady Raven's sight as to where his majesty may be, as asked for by Lord Thomas:

What you've found, you do not understand
The king is not in some far-off realm bound
The keys are all close, all quite near at hand.
But His Majesty does not wish to come home
To a land grown cold, to his life grown old
He hopes for solution not found in a tome
He does not know what, if truth's to be told.
You must show him hope ere he will return
A true renewal, not another false Spring
Within you, the power to Change Rules does burn
Prove your gifts true, and you win back our King.

Lady Mavis once said:

'The Destroyer is a part of the Land, and to it he will always return, no matter how many times he is defeated.' -- As to this I must add that such a Rule does not exist within the Book of Rules and legend suggests that it may matter how many times he is defeated.' -- As to this I must add that such a Rule does not exist within the Book of Rules and legend suggests that it may have once done so. 'Tis plain to me then that indeed the Rule is not to have ever existed, the Rule has since faded and may no longer hold power, or it is not known to the scholars of the present Day."

On the matter of defence against a Warlock:

Witches and Warlocks traffic in lies, deceit, and dissension. Honesty, a pure heart, loyalty, and devotion, are all anathema to them. It is said they have no power over the purest--though this may vary depending on the strength of the warlock or witch.

For one less than perfect, striking before the warlock can unleash his spells is advised.Religious artifacts, especially potent relics (bones of saints, etc.) have power against witches and warlocks, and they are forbidden from entering sanctified grounds, such as churches.Regarding the true name of the Year's End:

T'would be my best suggestion that The Destroyer might truly be Lord Eoin of January. I have thought on it much, and have reviewed what stories and letters we know. Lord Bram speaks of The Destroyer felling Sir Bruin in his letter and indeed it was the kind Lady Yesult who spoke that legend does note that Sir Bruin was slain guarding his mistress from Lord Eoin of January. As you did explain that names have power, Lady Sorceress, I offer that this may be of special use to you.

The animals of the Twelve Houses:

And in closing I offer this to you all:

T'would be our power to shape the rules of Mirari, and in that perhaps the Key we all sought. Seek then our happy ending and belive in what is good and joyful.

'Till we meet again my friends. I will pray for your safety.

Your friend always,

A.
