The Sigil of Memory
Redmane learns the fate of those who have gone missing, including Thomas.
(Legends of Mirari) (Redmane) (Thomas)
()
Learning that the wolf-woman she confronts is trying to keep her (and anyone else) from falling into a trap set by the other wolves, Redmane refuses to turn back and insists the woman (named Erzsebet) explain things further.

Following her to a cave where another wolf joins them, Redmane is to be shown what happened via magic called 'the sigil of memory', which she recognizes as belonging to the goddess Cerridwen, which surprises the two wolf-women.

The sigil shows Thomas tracking the wolves, and then being hunted by them. He keeps tricking them, and has a chance to escape when his pursuers are lured onto the thin ice of a frozen pond and fall through. His compassion gets the better of him and he goes back to rescue the wolves, much to the confusion of the wolf-women with Redmane. This leads to him being captured and taken to a ritual area, where the Elders circle around and transform him into a wolf. An iron collar is placed around his neck to prevent him from transforming back to his human form.

Erszebet explains the purpose: to shore up the pack's dwindling numbers. If the fey remain in wolf form for a full Month, they will forget about their old lives and be part of the pack. She and a few others oppose forcing this onto them, however, thinking it should be voluntary.

In the end, Redmane demands to be brought to the Elders, with Erszebet pretending to be her captor.
