The Pages of Historie
(6 Feb 2003) Thomas and Simon search through the catacombes underneath the Palace of All Seasons, for the Book of Historie.

Thomas and Simon, underneath the Palace of All Seasons, are confronted by an animated stone lion guardian, who demands to know what right they have to pass. Lord Explorer Thomas explains his heritage, as a son of House November - and also of House February, as he is a descendant of Lady Cherise - but while the guardian thinks this enough for Thomas to pass and pay respects to his ancestors, it is not enough for him to touch the Book of History ... and the guardian has strong misgivings about Simon, claiming to smell monsters upon him.

Thomas vouches for Simon, and the two are allowed - with some reluctance on the guardian's part - to pass, but only after Thomas turns over Bram's Flute for safekeeping while they are inside.

Inside, they encounter a room that employs an enchantment of misdirection, causing them to get disoriented, and come back out the way they came. They head back in - this time holding onto each other, keeping their eyes closed, and determinedly going straight - and at last pass through the chamber.

Finally, they reach a room with a pedestal and a book in the center. They search for some way to open the book without touching it, so they may read it, but to no avail. As a last measure, Thomas allows Simon to use a lance to knock the cover of the book open. This reveals a note from Melchizedek to the Destroyer - "Did you really think it would be that easy?" And so Thomas considers that the real book must be elsewhere....
