Rummaging
Tuesday (12 Sep 2001) Thomas and Agatha help clean out the church basement. 		(Agatha) (Tom)
Thomas attempts to sell his father on the idea of building a tree house, but his ambitions are blunted by the fact that he doesn't have permission to build in the Gnarly Tree -- as it happens to reside on Danzwyck lands. The next day, Tom goes out to the library again to do more research, and when he comes back, he finds out that his mother talked to the Danzwycks and worked out a special deal: the deacons of the church plan to clear out part of the basement, which has been accumulating a great amount of junk over the years, in order to convert part of it into a new classroom for the older kids in the Sunday School classes. If Tom will assist with cleaning the basement out, not only will he get permission from the Danzwycks to build a tree house on the edge of their property, but he may also have an opportunity to use some scrap from the basement as building material.

Tom shows up, along with Agatha and others, and helps with the move, having to deal with a disagreeable freshman by the name of Ginny Hortons by playing her off of Genji Hikaru -- whom Ginny happens to have a crush on. Agatha focuses on moving things out of the way that might be broken by moving heavy objects around, and the practical concern of making sure that there is ample lighting in the basement.

The work for the day is called off when it starts to rain outside, as everyone has to rush to move things indoors temporarily above ground. Tom arranges to obtain a number of plywood backdrops from an old Easter play production, as well as a winch arrangement for a "flying angel", in order to use them as materials for his tree house. Agatha shows an interest in a Roman centurion costume. Tom briefly sees Mr. Winters, and tries to question him about Maximillan Winters and his sister -- and whether she has a pet cat -- but is thwarted by the timely arrival of Mrs. Winters in the family station wagon.
