Lady Nymuae receives visitors from House October, and -- although displeased by the intrusion imposed by Lord October -- accepts that Alice and Agatha wish to go visit House October themselves, and possibly gain some new information. Alice and Agatha set out with a party of tree men and deer men, led by Captain Morrigan, but along the way, they encounter some men of House September fighting off some monsters known as "bugbears". Agatha leaps into battle, and finds that her iron sword is very effective against the monsters; she cripples one, and prompts the other to flee. Alice tends to the wounded, and Agatha manages to summon a lost horse by whistling for it.
