Not Letting Sleeping Dragons Lie
(15 Aug 2002) Our heroes continue onward toward the Destroyer's Keep.

Thomas, Redmane and Sir Lefallon bluff their way past the goblins, with Rachel's help as an interpreter. They continue into the caves, and Thomas discovers a secret door hidden behind a wall of illusion, which he opens by playing the magic flute. They ascend a long flight of stairs, and emerge into the lair of Monitor, the iron dragon. Monitor is guarding the back way into the Destroyer's keep, but Thomas succeeds in suggesting to the dragon that he is unlikely to receive any payment from a master whose purpose is to destroy the entire world. Nonetheless, Monitor proclaims that he will not leave any transaction without being the richer for it, so he demands a toll from each of the heroes if he is to look the other way.

Thomas offers the book he found from the water mages. Redmane offers Monitor a very rare gift -- a kiss. What Rachel offers is not clear, but she whispers something into the dragon's ear, and he seems pleased. As for Sir Lefallon and Ahearn, Monitor offers that they might pay him by fetching for him something of value from the Destroyer's keep, when they pass by. Reluctantly, the adventurers agree to this, and Monitor lets them pass.

Further in, they encounter the wraith of Randall, Thomas's old friend, now in the grip of the Destroyer. Thomas squares off against Randall, bidding the others to make sure that nothing else interferes in their duel.
