Ahearn, Redmane, Rachel, Thomas and Sir Lefallon search a number of guest rooms branching off a hallway where Thomas is confined -- as he is pretending to be there to join up with the Destroyer's minions, but isn't willing to commit to signing a contract just yet. Thomas plays up his role, distracting the goblins who might discover his friends -- while his friends manage to find a secret passage in one of the unused rooms.

Once the goblins are gone, Thomas joins his friends, and they work their way through the fortress ... until they find themselves in a tower, where a gaunt man -- Lord April! -- is being held prisoner. Once they are convinced of his identity -- and he of theirs -- Thomas uses the magic flute to open the door, and they prepare to make good their escape.
