Legends: When Thomas Met Redmane
Lord Thomas invites his friends to Hawksmoor to tell them a story from the past.
(Agatha) (Elinor) (Hannah) (Legends of Mirari) (Redmane)
(Thomas) (Simon) (Tom)
After inviting several of the more curious new members of the Golden Hawks and a few of his legendary friends, Thomas tells the tale of how he summoned to the Tournament back in April of 36 to investigate a possible threat to the crown.

He reads a letter from then-Princess Alexandra, whom he had rescued from a sticky situation previously. In it, she asks him to look into the Black Knight - a entrant who kept his face hidden and was likely to become the Tournament Champion - to determine if he posed a threat, since the Champion is given his reward by the King and Queen.

Thomas meets with the disguised Princess at the Tourney, and also runs into a young Minstrel Sam, who helps by asking the strange knight questions so Thomas can listen to his accent, which he can't actually place.

While the knight prepares to joust, Thomas and Alexandra head for his tent, which is unguarded as the Black Knight has no attendants. Tom sneaks inside while the Princess stands guard. The furnishings are as foreign to Thomas the knight's armor and accent were, and when he tries to look into a chest he encounters the knight's true watchdogs: a sword and lance made of iron, placed to keep curious fae from pilfering. The presence of the weapons does nothing to ease Thomas' concern that the Black Knight may mean harm.

Using an old rug, he manages to keep the sword in place while looking into the chests, but no sooner than he does so he hears the sounds of the crowd cheering. Acting quickly, he copies the strange runes inscribed on the weapons.

Outside there is a commotion as the disguised Princess bumps into the knight to alert Thomas, and the Lord Explorer hides in a chest under the old rug he was using. When the knight comes in and removes his armor, Tom risks a peek by lifting the lid of the chest. Since the knight is facing away and removing the padded garments worn under the armor, Thomas can't see a face - but he sees more than enough to realize the Black Knight is actually a woman.

Thomas waits in the chest until the woman dresses and leaves, and even works up a glamour-based disguise in case he's discovered. Once he's sure she's gone, he meets up with the Princess again, who is disappointed to find out the likely champion is a woman, dashing her romantic fantasies.

The pair follow the knight to a nearby tavern, where Thomas finds the Golden Hawks' translator, Oberia, and shows her the runes he copied. She's able to identify them as Fomorian, from the far off island of Ancient Eire, but can only identify two of them as 'sea' and 'little'.

Sam is also there, and Thomas leaves Alexandra with him while he goes to check out a corner where he suspects the woman is sitting. He finds a woman in green with hair that matches what he saw and collected in the tent, and introduces himself.

The woman doesn't seem to mind the company, and gets Thomas to treat her to dinner. There is some small-talk and mild flirting as each of them tries to figure out the other, and a slight interruption when Sir Erik of House November comes over to deride Thomas for showing up, calling him a House-traitor for leaving to establish the Golden Hawks.

It eventually comes out that Thomas knows the woman is the Black Knight, and that she has iron. She assures him her reasons for entering the Tourney are so that she can afford to set down roots and stop wandering, and offers to take an oath that she means no harm.

Thomas arranges for her and the Princess to meet in a safehouse, and Redmane takes an oath that she will not use her weapons against the fae of Mirari.

The story concludes back in the present, and Thomas bids his friends farewell. When he's alone again, he reveals to himself that there may be more to Thomas and Redmane's relationship that is still untold.
