Island of Crows, Part II
(9 Aug 2001) The heroes confront the jruuh once more. |
The heroes rush into a clearing to discover Lady Raven lying prone on the ground, as several of the shadow-creatures, the jruuh, can only be seen glimpsed out of the corner of one's eye. Redmane looks directly at one, and it vanishes, and she supposes that this is some magical ability of the jruuh to make themselves visible, so she tries to view them in the reflection of her blade. Thomas rushes to Lady Raven's aid, while Simon tries to help the Princess catch up with the others. The Princess casts a spell that creates a blinding light that instantly reveals all of the jruuh, and either dispels or destroys them outright.
The heroes then retreat to the tower where Lady Raven has been staying, and learn that she is a seeress with the gift of foresight. The enchantment on the island was meant to keep the jruuh at bay, but the arrival of the heroes -- and their dispelling of the enchantment -- allowed the jruuh to attack. Nonetheless, Princess Angel insists that there is more evil at work than just the jruuh, but that there is the threat of the "Year's End", and that they need the seeress's help to defeat it.
Lady Raven offers to give each one of those present an answer to any question they might pose, though she warns that the narrowest questions give the most satisfying answers. Thomas at first refuses to ask any question of Lady Raven, but quickly changes his mind in impatience at the others, and asks the whereabouts of the King. He is rewarded with a strange riddle, which is then pondered over, but the others decide not to ask any more questions until they are safely away from the island.
