The Lord of December, Redmane, Sir Bravil, and Thomas battle a great beast. The battle came close, but in the end, Redmane wins out and slays the creature.
Later, Redmane and Thomas talk in the baths about a great many things. For a brief time, Thomas lets down his walls of jokes and teasing and tells Redmane many things ... and thus begins a closer friendship than either have had in a long time.
