(fauna) Maw
MAW
Maws can be described as creatures consisting of a mouth, four little legs, a long tail with a glowing bulb on the end ... and practically nothing else. They are found primarily in the Wandering Roams, but have also been found in various locations in the Savan, and possibly also in small areas of Ur. They range in size from that of a fist to purportedly large enough to swallow a full-sized man (or Khatta or Jupani or...). The glowing bulb apparently helps them to attract insects as prey, but they'll eat anything that they can get their sizeable jaws around.

(term) (symbol) Mind, Sphere of
Perhaps one of the more feared and least understood of the Spheres of magic recognized by the College Esoterica, the Sphere of Mind deals with just that: thoughts and memories, emotions and sensations. In some aspects, it may be used to cause illusions, but it deals with directly affecting one's perceptions -- perhaps where none others will notice -- rather than presenting an outward image for one to then mistakenly perceive as the truth. More powerful spells are capable of goading weak minds into particular actions, or even revealing their thoughts.

Mind mages traditionally dress in rich brown robes bearing the rune of their Sphere, "The Center" (or "The Heart"), which is also the rune of the planet Logos.

(term) Minor Spell
A "Minor Spell" is a classification of incantations, more powerful than a Cantrip, but less powerful than a full-blown Ritual or Major Ritual. Unlike Rituals, a Minor Spell usually does not require material components, magic circles or other such preparation. Minor Spells typically take on the order of 15 minutes or more to cast on the surface of Sinai, or an hour at sky island altitude.

(location) (legend) Moltpaa
MOHLT-pah
(Not common knowledge outside of Nordika)

Legendary underground kingdom of a bygone age, with borders supposedly matching that of present-day Kroz. Ruins can be found in the wilderness of Kroz, attributed to this ancient culture of a kingdom supposedly ruled by Skreeks. Some adventurers and treasure-hunters are drawn to Kroz in hopes of finding one of these entrances, and fighting off monsters and traps in order to retrieve ancient treasures, but the known entrances have pretty much been picked over by now.

(location) (legend) Morpheus
MOR-fee-us
Morpheus is the second planet from the sun, appearing grey in color, when it can be seen, and also curious in that it always appears to be in the same "phase" of crescent. This is because, even though it is closer to the sun, somehow it is on the same plane of orbit as Sinai, and also has the same length of year, thus moving in concert with Sinai. It is associated with the realm of Dream and hence is of importance to the Sphere of Dream of the College Esoterica.

In legend, Morpheus is also the name of the God of Dreams, without any specific form (though, due to the predominance of the Olympian mythos, traditionally portrayed as a grey-furred Kattha).

However, there has been a recent rebirth of interest in the long-forgotten God of Dreams, as several Dream Mages have claimed to have seen Morpheus during their rituals. This God of Dreams is described as appearing as a dark silhouette in the shape of a winged Khatta with large ears.

In recent years, the Gateway Tower provided access to the planet Morpheus. The Rephidim Temple began attempts to map the planet, but this was frustrated by its everchanging nature. Reports indicate that the planet has a breathable atmosphere despite having a low gravity that shouldn't be able to sustain it. Furthermore, it is covered in grey silt which drifts about in clouds, requiring some sort of air filter to be worn while on the planet. Strange structures of "molten crystal" and stone rise and fall on occasion, and sometimes defy gravity, while the air is filled with the quiet sounds of chiming melodies from time to time.

Further exploration has been frustrated by a large crystal growth that formed about the Gateway Tower on Morpheus, effectively trapping it, and preventing exit from the Crystal Chamber there.

(location) Moz Ezley Home for the Disturbed in Spirit
The Moz Ezley Home for the Disturbed in Spirit is also known as "The Asylum". Located amongst the Old City ruins in deepest Darkside, here can be found tormented souls who are kept here ostensibly to keep them from harming themselves or others, though escapes are not all that infrequent.

(item) Naga Truffle
Naga truffles are typical of Naga candy. Namely, since Nagas swallow their food rather than chewing it, their food typically focuses more on outer textures and taste rather than the interior. Thus, Naga truffles, made to look like Bromthen truffles, have very sweet and lumpy exteriors, but the interior is pasty and, while semi-nutritious and easily digested by the Nagai, rather tasteless.

(race) (location) Nagai
nah-GUY
  1. The term for the collective people known as "the Nagai", reptiloids that resemble snakes, but have semi-humanoid upper torsos, with two arms. Sometimes, the term is abused to refer to other, non-snake-like reptiloids often associated with the Nagai.
  2. Short for "Nagai Empire". Refers to the collection of territories with boundaries that equal that of the Savan Territories (with the exception that Fetiss Sky Island is considered part of the Nagai Empire, yet it is not part of the Savan).
  3. Major territory of the Nagai Empire, located on the east coast of the Savan Territories.
  4. Capitol city (more specifically known as Nagai City) of the Nagai Empire, located within the Nagai Territory, on the east side of the Savan Territories.

(race) Naga
NAH-gah
The Nagai are a widely-varied race of serpent-types who look like giant snakes, but with a human-like torso not far behind the neck, though the lower body is one large coil. On average, Nagas "stand" at about the same size as a human, but if fully stretched out, they easily reach 18 feet in length. Some varieties of Nagai -- such as the Boa -- can reach far longer than this, up to 30 to 50 feet, it is said. At the other end of the spectrum can be found the lowly Garters, only stretching 2 to 3 feet in length, and standing much shorter than that.

Nagas are generally quite agile, and some have poisonous bites, though truly lethal poisons are a relative rarity among the various sub-types. They are reptilian and cold-blooded, and therefore are found in more temperate or warm climates, and almost never in the colder northern regions.

On the continent of Ai, Nagas can be found largely in the regions of the Savan, especially in the jungles. There are many Nagai settlements in the Savan, some with stone buildings dating several centuries old. On the continent of Ur, many Naga can be found in the Ashdod Territories, especially in the capitol city of Babel.

Nagas lay claim to a heritage that supposedly traces back eons, their "Nagai Empire" purportedly formed back in the age of the First Ones. Of what can be verified, though, the history of their empire can only be traced with certainty back to 4000 RTR, or, perhaps, closer toward 3000 RTR. Of surviving records (carved in stone, etc.) they are the first culture recognized to have had Savanite slaves. (Considering their widespread presence in the Savan, this would only seem natural.)

(legend) Nala
NAH-lah
(not common information outside of Ashdod Territories)

Goddess worshipped by the golden-furred feline Gigis of the Gigi Coastal area, depicted as an idealized Gigi female.

(race) Nessian
NEHSS-ee-ahn

(location) New Elamoore
A settlement that has sprung up near the Red Cliffs of Himar, comprised of displaced former citizens of Elamoore who returned en masse from Abaddon with the discovery of the Gateway Tower. Due to the devastation wrought on Himar by the dropping of the "Boomer", New Elamoore is economically and politically dominated by the Khattan Emirate of neighboring Himaat.

(location) New Golgotha
gohl-GAHTH-ah

(event) New Year's Day
[Earth time: February 1] This is the date that starts the Rephidim calendar each year, and is celebrated by parades and the making of loud noises to drive away old ghosts and spirits.

(flora) Nik-Nik
NIK-nik
Nik-nik berries are yet another fruit to be found on Sinai, but a few people believe mashed nik-nik berries to be a cure for air sickness. The paste created from mashed nik-nik berries is sweet, but the seeds are tart and crunchy.
