[Earth Time: November 15] This annual celebration coincides with the traditional time of harvest for Rephidim and much of the northern hemisphere. A large meal showing off the bounties of the harvest is the centerpiece of the day's festivities.

The Hekoye Nation is an expanse located on the equatorial part of the continent of Ur, bordered to the west by the Assokinaqot River, to the south by the Forbidden Zone of Shabar, and to the east by the Ashdod Territories. Since this is an equatorial nation, it tends to be fairly warm year-round, though there are also some mountainous regions within its expanse. The "capitol" of the Hekoye Nation is Ihtoli Maqahamok, a meeting place located up in the mountains, and not claimed by any one of the tribes.
| ||
The Hekoye are a race of humanoid urocyonids (coyotes.) Most are tall, typically 5'5" to 6'5" in height, with no clear advantage of one sex over the other. Most are russet-furred, with slight variations and additions of white, gray, black, brown, and sometimes yellow. They walk on heeled feet and have hands with five clawtipped fingers. Their musculature varies by trade, but none can be considered burly. Normal sex differentiation otherwise applies. Hekoye have mastered weaving in recent years, and their clothing employs both coarse burlap-like material and hides. The typical adult garment for either gender is a hide poncho worn with or without a hood, that drapes to the elbow, underneath which a cloth tunic dresses them to the knees. Most also wear sandals. The stereotypical Hekoye is seen as being soft-spoken and reserved in passions, at least in normal discourse, compared to many other cultures. In Hekoye culture, pride as other races might know it is subdued, as is verbal angst. It is against Hekoye culture to complain about one's lot in life, nor to give sympathy for one who does so. Some outsiders may grow frustrated with the time required to negotiate with Hekoye elders. According to Hekoye tradition, they devote time and pensive thought to any decision except those that involve the gravest threat to life, and solutions only come after shrewd consideration of all alternatives. The tribes of the Hekoye are scattered across an area roughly defined as the Hekoye Nation, with their "capitol" being a meeting place known as Ihtoli Maqahamok, located up in the mountains.

See High Prince After the assassination of High Prince Boghaz bar Sabaoth in the latter part of 6099 RTR, his wife, Saraizadze, succeeded him as ruler of Babel (and, by extension, the Ashdod Territories), and took on the title of High Princess. Presumably, her successor will be referred to as "High Prince" or "High Princess".
| ||
Since the fall of the Sabaoth, the ruler of the Eeee city of Babel (and, by extension of authority, all of the Ashdod Territories) was known as the High Prince. The first High Prince was Boghaz bar Sabaoth (son of the Sabaoth), who died in 6099 RTR and was succeeded by his wife, Saraizadze, who became the High Princess. The High Prince (or High Princess) rules by a coalition of representatives of the various noble houses vying for power in Babel and the outlying lands, and is -- at least in theory -- the head of a monarchy. This function is no different than the previous leader of Babel, known as the Sabaoth. The change in name has largely been political, to signal a break in identity from that previous ruler. (Also, the rumors of the Sabaoth being ageless and several millenia old obviously no longer apply to the new ruler.)

Himaat is a mostly desert territory (interchangeable with reference to the Himaat Desert or just "The Himaat") bordered by the west by the Sea of Himaat, touched by Himar and Tizhar to the north, and bordering the Savan to the south. It is noteworthy for the "Sea of Sand", a vast expanse of very fine, light sand that behaves much like quicksand, and is home to a few varieties of creatures which "swim" through it ... or "sail" over it. The largest city of Himaat is Abu Dhabi, a port city located on the shore of the Sea of Himaat, and the capitol of the Khattan Emirate. Another settlement of note is the town of Gateway, built up around the Gateway Tower. Less visited is the near-legendary city of Noh, home to a large settlement of the reclusive and mutated Nohbakim, and the mysterious Earth Tower, also known as the Tower of Barabbas.

Also known as the "Himar Territories". Sometimes confused with the region of Himaat, which has sometimes been supposed to be part of the "Himar Territories" in ancient times - a notion that still shows up at times in the present. Himar is a largely forested and partially mountainous region located in the middle of the continent of Ai, north of Himaat and south of the nations of Nordika. Tizbar borders it on the east, while the Seaborne Reach is adjacent, to the west. To the northeast is the Sea of Ice, a large glacier, and smaller glaciers feed its rivers. (Himar represents extremes of climate, as it is possible to go from glacier to desert in a walking journey while going across it.) The capitol of Himar is New Elamoore, a settlement located close to the Red Cliffs - a large red plateau formed of Abaddonian earth transplanted to Sinai when the "Boomer" was dropped by Babel on the city of Elamoore. Due to the devastation wrought by this ordeal, Himar has fallen under the influence of the Khattan Emirate, and is now part of the Emir's considerable empire. Himar is frequently underneath or close to the path of the movements of the sky island of Rephidim, and therefore has frequent dealings with it. There is no particular "dominant species" in Himar, as a wide number of species can be found there, especially in the vicinity of Elamoore. Most associated with Himar are Himarian Jupani (Jupani, Himarian), also known as "Feral Jupani". There are also some fauna associated with Himar, such as the gooshurm and the graker, but non-anthropomorphic "Terran" type animals are fairly common in the wilderness areas here.

(not common information) Hookas are barely understood creatures that are quite alien when compared to most lifeforms on Sinai -- particularly sapient ones. They appear to be constructed of shelled modules that have concave "nodes" in multiple spots, and can be linked together to form the body of a Hooka. The essential component is the Hooka head, which has a long bottle-like snout (with a perpetually "O" shaped mouth) and two "eyes" that look like concave depressions similar to the "linking nodes" elsewhere on Hooka bodies. (It has been reported that some variations of Hookas actually have "googly eyes" in these sockets -- possibly another "breed" of Hooka, though it seems that both varieties are just as capable of seeing.) Hookas have their own language, which sounds akin to blowing over the top of a glass bottle partially filled with water ... though Hookas are also capable of making louder "honking" noises as well. Hookas are actually capable of disassembling themselves and then reassembling into different forms. Body parts can be mixed and matched with other Hookas, and a head-less Hooka body can apparently perform some limited functions for a few seconds ... but the conscience of a Hooka resides in the head, and if a body part is removed from the head for more than a few seconds, it is unable to function (that function generally just consisting of trying to find the body again) until physically reattached. Hookas have been found in the Wandering Roams, and have been reported on the planet of Arcadia as well. The Hookas in the Wandering Roams are of the "eye socket" variety, having shells the color of bone. Those of Arcadia are of the "googly eye" variety, and come in a wide range of colors in addition to the "bone" color. Little is known of how Hookas live on Sinai, but on Arcadia it has been reported that Hookas are grown (in the form of head plus a few modules) by an especially large "Hooka Queen". Apparently there is organic material inside of each module, and they are capable of growing. It is not known how additional "modules" are created, or if these creatures possess genders. They appear to eat plant material by sucking it in through their mouth/nose orifices. In at least one incident on Arcadia, there was a report of malformed Hookas being born that had blackish shells. These "baby" Hookas would fall over, crack open, and then exude wormy growths that would link up with other such wormy creatures, to form larger beings that would prey upon (normal) Hookas and upon the environment. These monsters appeared to be able to drain the life from anything they touched, burning large paths through the Arcadian forest. No such monsters have been reported on Sinai, however.

[not common information outside Lamu] Large turtle-like creature found in Lamu, prized by the Lacinus for its meat and remains, as its shell makes good armor, its beak and be used to make a spear, and its eyes harden upon death, then glow when heated up by fire. They mostly dine on Water-Flinger.
| ||
Large insectoid creature found on the continent of Ur, primarily in the Ashdod Territories and surrounding areas, combining features of wasp, spider and other strange creatures into one large, violent package. Horribs generate a potent poison that they inject with their stingers - a poison that sees fairly widespread use amongst those who would use such things, to the point that antidotes are readily available in most civilized territories. Ironically, horrib poison also is used as a major ingredient as an antidote to several toxins. Female horribs possess the ability to inject a paralyzing, non-lethal form of poison into their prey, so that they can plant their eggs in the still-conscious victim, which will then hatch into larvae and feed upon the host. The Babelites use horribs thus to condemn criminals to a particularly horrible fate, essentially being eaten alive by horrib larvae, and sustained during the whole and quite terrible ordeal. Horribs are also carefully prepared as a delicacy of sorts (since improper preparation can result in poisoned food), and the fleshy tail is especially prized by Eeee diners.

(not common knowledge outside Babel and religious circles) One of the Sabaoth Seven, and also accepted as one of the original Sabaoth Six -- demon-warriors bound to the service of the ruler of Ashdod as well as the Seven Sisters. Hosheb is depicted as a mutant Eeee with horrib-like features, including chitinous natural armor, multiple arms ending in pincers, a tail with a poisonous stinger, large insect wings, mandibles, and multiple eyes. Hosheb is sometimes associated with Gorphat, since horribs are sometimes associated with the spreading of affliction.

One of the more distinct bodies of the Procession, often referred to as a "Guide". This one is so named because it has an elongated shape when viewed from Sinai, leading some to imagine it as a celestial knife hurtling through the heavens. The "Knife" rotates, so at times it is more easily visible than others. If it is end-on, it's hardly distinguishable. If it's parallel to the ground, it reflects enough light to be visible with the unaided eye. When the "Knife" is most visible in the sky at night, it reflects enough light to subtly affect the available illumination, somewhat like a full moon would, but less impressive. Since this alignment is favorable to hunting at night, it tends to be associated with hunters, hence its identity as "Hunter's Knife".

"Capitol" of the Hekoye Nation -- in actuality, a sacred meeting ground located on a mountaintop, chosen because it is on ground that (at least at the time) would not be coveted by any of the tribes, and therefore could be considered neutral and uncontested ground. It is not home to any true settlement, though there are some among the Hekoye who can be found in the area, seeing to it that the sacred grounds are not defiled by outsiders. |
