Hotel Blitzheim
Filk of 'Hotel California' for Chronotopia.
---
You think of the oddest things during and after roleplay, especially if you
listen to music while you're at it. To the tune of "Hotel California" ...

Let me know if you like it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

In a dark cloudy country, no color anywhere
Warm smell of thunderstorms rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dimmer
I had to stop for the night

A clock hung o'er the doorway
I heard its chiming bells
And I was thinking to myself
"This place must keep its schedules very well."
Bellhop lit up a candle and showed me the way
There were Cervani in the lobby
I thought I heard them say

"Welcome to the grand Hotel Blitzheim
Such a lovely place, such a well-known place, such a well-known place
Plenty of room at the grand Hotel Blitzheim
Any time of year, you can find it here, you can find it here."

I was readin' the newspaper, it talks of a Great Machine
They say you take your place in the gears there when your life ends
How the clouds in the sky haven't parted yet
The sun few remember, most here have long forgot

So I called to room service:
"Tell me the sun shines!"
He said, "We haven't had a clear day here since sixty sixty nine"
And still this land's people call from far away
I wake up in the middle of the night
When I hear them say

"Welcome to the grand Hotel Blitzheim
Such a lovely place, such a well-known place, such a well-known place
Livin' it up at the grand Hotel Blitzheim
Under the Star, that's where we are, that's where we are."

There's lots of clocks on the wall
Faces all shining white
Someone said "We are just gears joining in the Great Machine tonight."
And in the tired old courtyard
They gathered for the trip
Landsknechts off to a place called Bosch
They set off at half past six

Last thing I remember, I was heading for the door
I had to find the roadway back
To the night I'd seen before
"Relax," said the night man, "We are Chronotopians, you see.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave."
